This time I will take you to the eastern part of Indonesia, specifically to the East of Kalimantan Island, namely the Island of Sulawesi.

Sulawesi Island has 5 provinces, namely West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi. Each province has a different traditional wedding dress. Let's see them one by one!

26. West Sulawesi Traditional Wedding Dresses

First, we will visit West Sulawesi. There are several tribes in the Province of West Sulawesi including the Mandar, Mamasa, and Pattae tribes. This time I will take the traditional wedding dress of the Mandar tribe.

The groom's attire is very simple, consisting of a long-sleeved top with a closed model and a low collar. Usually black or gold in color and made of silk. As for the lower part, wear a sarong of the same color as the top or trousers combined with a woven sarong.

The groom's accessories include a head covering called "Songok Tobone" which is the same color as the dress he is wearing, a pendant with a gold ring placed in his shirt pocket, and sandals made from leather.

Meanwhile, the bride's dress is called "
Pattuqduq Towaine". The upper part consists of a short-sleeved blouse made of silk in bright colors like gold. There is embroidery on the edge of the shirt and sleeves.

For the lower part, wear a long and wide skirt that is the same color as the blouse and also has embroidery.
In addition, the bride also uses a lot of accessories such as bracelets and ornaments on the head.

27. Central Sulawesi Traditional Dresses for Wedding

Next, we come to the Province of Central Sulawesi. The capital of this province is the city of Palu. This province has the largest area among all provinces in Sulawesi. Central Sulawesi also has several rivers, including the "Lariang" River which is famous as a rafting area. Another beauty of Palu City is "Doda Hill" or Star Hill because from this hill we can see the beauty of the stars in the sky at night.

Let's see another beauty of the wedding traditional dress from this province. The largest tribe in Central Sulawesi is the "Kaili" tribe.

For the bride of the Kaili tribe, it is called the "Nggembe" dress. The upper part is a blouse with a rectangular shape whose length reaches the waist, with a round collar and long sleeves as wide as the cloth. On the chest of the blouse, there are beautiful sequins and beads. Meanwhile, the lower part is "Donggala" woven cloth combined with golden thread decoration.

The bride also wears ornaments such as a breastplate, a short necklace, a long necklace, small bracelets, big bracelets, and decorations on the bun.

Besides, the broom's attire is called the "Koje Shirt". The Koje shirt is a top dress with a stand-up collar and long sleeves. For the lower part also wear cloth from Donggala woven with the same pattern as the bride.

By the way, the groom's appearance is also perfected with several accessories such as woven cloth crossed on the shoulders, ornaments on the chest, bracelets, head covering, and a small knife.

28. Traditional Wedding Dresses of North Sulawesi

Further, now we will see the Province which is located at the northern top of the island of Sulawesi with the city of Manado as the Capital.

In this Province, many Historical Relics are found. Besides that, North Sulawesi is rich in underwater natural beauty such as "Bunaken" which is very famous throughout the world. Also, this province is a producer of many kinds of spices.

In the Minahasa tribe, the bride's dress is a long-sleeved Kebaya combined with the bottom cloth of the same color. At the hem of the shirt, there is beautiful embroidery, which is usually made of golden thread. To complete the appearance, it is equipped with luxurious accessories on the chest and head.

For the groom, wear a shirt like a closed jacket and a long-sleeved, for the bottom wear trousers of the same color as the shirt. Then complete with a sarong from the waist to the knee. Also, for accessories, use the belt with gold color embroidery, a small knife, and a head cover.

Furthermore, Southeast Sulawesi Province is rich in mining and forest products. Here there are also many tribes with various cultures, one of them being the Tolaki tribe.

Then, for the bottom side, the groom wears trousers with the same color as the top side. Also, there are several accessories and other fittings, such as a belt which is also decorated with beads and matches the color of the shirt and trousers. There is a head covering which is also decorated with beads and some other decorations.

30. South Sulawesi Traditional Dresses for Wedding

Last, we reached South Sulawesi. This province is bordered by Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi in the north. Some of the tribes in South Sulawesi are the Bugis, Makassar, Toraja, and Mandar tribes. And, this is the traditional wedding dress of Toraja tribes.

Toraja traditional clothes for women are called "Pokko" clothes. The models of Pokko clothes usually have short sleeves with the same color as the shirt and skirt. Generally, these traditional clothes are made of plain cloth with bright colors or woven cloth with motifs typical of the Toraja tribe.

Besides that, complete accessories with match colors such as beaded necklaces cover the chest, beaded belts, bracelets, and small knives. The hairstyle is in the form of a large bun with some beautiful ornaments.

1. Determine Your Belt Purpose

Clarify the purpose of your belt to guide your selection process.

  • Are you looking for a functional belt to hold up your pants, or a fashion statement piece to enhance your outfit?
  • Consider whether you want a versatile belt that works for multiple occasions or a specialized one for a specific purpose.

2. Understand Belt Widths

Different belt widths create different visual effects and suit various body types.

  • Wide belts draw attention and cinch the waist, ideal for creating an hourglass silhouette.
  • Narrow belts add a subtle accent and work well with delicate outfits or to highlight a specific area.

3. Consider Belt Length

Belt length should match your waist or hip measurement depending on your desired wearing style.

  • For waist belts, choose a size that fits comfortably around the narrowest part of your waist.
  • If wearing a hip belt, measure around the hips and select a size that allows for a slight adjustment.

4. Assess Belt Materials

The choice of belt materials affects both durability and style.

  • Leather belts offer timeless elegance, durability, and versatility for various occasions.
  • Fabric belts provide a range of textures, colors, and patterns, suitable for casual and creative outfits.

5. Evaluate Buckle Styles

Buckles add personality and can transform the overall look of a belt.

  • Classic single-prong buckles are versatile and suitable for most outfits.
  • Double-prong buckles offer a vintage touch and work well with jeans or bohemian-inspired looks.
  • Decorative buckles, such as engraved, oversized, or embellished designs, add a statement element.

6. Harmonize Belt Colors

Consider the color of your belt to harmonize with your outfit and personal style.

  • Neutral shades like black, brown, or tan are versatile and match a wide range of colors.
  • Vibrant or contrasting colors can add a pop of personality and draw attention to the belt as a focal point.

7. Match Belt to Occasion

Different occasions call for specific belt styles and formality levels.

  • Formal events usually require classic leather belts in conservative colors.
  • Casual or creative occasions allow for more flexibility, including fabric, braided, or patterned belts.

8. Pay Attention to Belt Hardware

Hardware details can enhance the overall aesthetic of a belt.

  • Choose belt hardware (buckles, studs, etc.) that complements your personal style and outfit.
  • Consider the durability and functionality of the hardware to ensure it withstands regular use.

9. Try Before You Buy

Always try on belts to ensure proper fit and comfort.

  • Experiment with different belt sizes and widths to find the most flattering option for your body shape.
  • Test the flexibility and adjustability of the belt to ensure it meets your preferences.

10. Invest in Quality

Quality belts are worth the investment for their longevity and craftsmanship.
