Sulawesi Island has 5 provinces, namely West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi. Each province has a different traditional wedding dress. Let's see them one by one!

26. West Sulawesi Traditional Wedding Dresses

First, we will visit West Sulawesi. There are several tribes in the Province of West Sulawesi including the Mandar, Mamasa, and Pattae tribes. This time I will take the traditional wedding dress of the Mandar tribe.

The groom's attire is very simple, consisting of a long-sleeved top with a closed model and a low collar. Usually black or gold in color and made of silk. As for the lower part, wear a sarong of the same color as the top or trousers combined with a woven sarong.

The groom's accessories include a head covering called "Songok Tobone" which is the same color as the dress he is wearing, a pendant with a gold ring placed in his shirt pocket, and sandals made from leather.

Meanwhile, the bride's dress is called "
Pattuqduq Towaine". The upper part consists of a short-sleeved blouse made of silk in bright colors like gold. There is embroidery on the edge of the shirt and sleeves.

For the lower part, wear a long and wide skirt that is the same color as the blouse and also has embroidery.
In addition, the bride also uses a lot of accessories such as bracelets and ornaments on the head.

27. Central Sulawesi Traditional Dresses for Wedding

Next, we come to the Province of Central Sulawesi. The capital of this province is the city of Palu. This province has the largest area among all provinces in Sulawesi. Central Sulawesi also has several rivers, including the "Lariang" River which is famous as a rafting area. Another beauty of Palu City is "Doda Hill" or Star Hill because from this hill we can see the beauty of the stars in the sky at night.

Let's see another beauty of the wedding traditional dress from this province. The largest tribe in Central Sulawesi is the "Kaili" tribe.

For the bride of the Kaili tribe, it is called the "Nggembe" dress. The upper part is a blouse with a rectangular shape whose length reaches the waist, with a round collar and long sleeves as wide as the cloth. On the chest of the blouse, there are beautiful sequins and beads. Meanwhile, the lower part is "Donggala" woven cloth combined with golden thread decoration.

The bride also wears ornaments such as a breastplate, a short necklace, a long necklace, small bracelets, big bracelets, and decorations on the bun.

Besides, the broom's attire is called the "Koje Shirt". The Koje shirt is a top dress with a stand-up collar and long sleeves. For the lower part also wear cloth from Donggala woven with the same pattern as the bride.

By the way, the groom's appearance is also perfected with several accessories such as woven cloth crossed on the shoulders, ornaments on the chest, bracelets, head covering, and a small knife.
